Today marked the first day of the International Livable Cities Conference! Students were welcomed to the conference; read articles about the amazing projects they have done in the fields of housing, transportation, waste, economics, parks&rec/public art, and Food/Safety/Health; did some mingling to meet other urban planning professionals attending the conference; and headed to Hawthorne to do some mapping of a neighborhood street. Tomorrow morning our keynote speaker, Rex Burkholder, will be introducing the Brownsfields Challenge to the students. We are continuing to discuss the question: What makes a city livable?
